The basics

What does ADHD therapy for adults actually do?

ADHD therapy for adults teaches practical skills for attention, planning, and emotional regulation that medication alone does not cover. Our clinicians draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and solution-focused approaches. These are the therapy methods Eye Cue Mental Health uses with this population. Ask about how we match each client to the approach that fits.

Adults with ADHD have often heard "just focus" or "you are lazy" for so long that they internalize those labels. Per the CHADD adult ADHD resource center, ADHD in adults is consistently underdiagnosed, and it gets mistaken for anxiety, depression, or low motivation. Try reframing the problem: these are skills gaps, not character flaws. Therapy addresses the gaps directly.

How it works

What ADHD therapy looks like at Eye Cue Mental Health

Five steps from your first call to skills you keep using between appointments.

1

Intake and fit

You call 562-860-2891. We ask about your current insurance and what is bringing you in. No algorithm sequences you anywhere. You talk to a person.

2

Clinician match

We connect you with a therapist whose approach fits ADHD and related concerns. If the fit is not right, you can switch to another clinician in the practice.

3

Weekly sessions

We start weekly when that is what your situation calls for. Treatment length is based on your medical necessity, not a session quota.

4

Skills building

Sessions focus on executive function, task initiation, emotional regulation, and the patterns that have been getting in your way.

5

Coordination as needed

If you are working with an outside prescriber for medication, we can coordinate with them. Eye Cue does not prescribe medication, and full diagnostic batteries are referred to neuropsychological providers. We handle the therapy side.

Why us

Why choose Eye Cue Mental Health for ADHD therapy in Cerritos

Most practices that feel like private practices have left Medi-Cal. We have not. Here is what that means for you.

Private-practice setting, Medi-Cal accepted

No metal detectors, no waiting-room friction, no acute-psychiatric environment mixed in with your session. A quiet private practice that accepts Medi-Cal among several insurances.

Same therapist, in person or by video

Same therapist whether you are in the Cerritos office or on telehealth. You do not lose continuity when life makes the commute hard.

If the fit is off, we match you again

If your therapist is not the right fit, we match you with another clinician in the practice without starting over from scratch.

We coordinate with your prescriber

When medication is part of your plan, we coordinate with your outside prescriber. We do not leave you managing two separate systems alone.

Weekly sessions when your situation calls for it

Large Medi-Cal panels often push clients to biweekly or monthly slots because of caseload pressure. When weekly sessions are what your situation calls for, that is what we work toward.

Open 7 days a week, 8 AM to 10 PM

Weekend and evening slots are rare among Medi-Cal mental health clinics in LA County. Our Cerritos office is open every day.

Who it helps

Who we work with on ADHD concerns

ADHD shows up differently for different people. These are the adults we most often work with.

Working adults

Professionals who have been masking ADHD for years and are hitting a wall with deadlines, meetings, and relationships.

College students and recent graduates

Students whose ADHD became harder to manage once external structure dropped away.

Adults newly diagnosed later in life

People who got a first diagnosis in their 30s, 40s, or beyond and are still figuring out what it means.

Adults managing ADHD and anxiety together

Many adults seeking ADHD support also live with anxiety, and the two can feed each other. Our clinicians work with both. If you are managing racing thoughts alongside focus problems, our anxiety therapy explains how we address both at once.

Adults who already have a diagnosis

If you already have a diagnosis, we pick up from there with therapy and coping-skills support. We do not provide full neuropsychological testing, and we can complete a preliminary narrative assessment as part of intake.

Clients on Medi-Cal

Many of our clients use Medi-Cal. We treat those clients by private-practice standards, with weekly sessions when the situation calls for it and a real private-practice setting.

In session

Executive function and coping skills for adults with ADHD

"Executive function" is an umbrella term for the mental skills that help you start tasks, hold information in working memory, manage time, and regulate your emotional reactions. Adults with ADHD often describe it as knowing what to do but being unable to start. Therapy works on that gap directly.

Skills our clinicians work on with ADHD clients include task initiation, breaking big projects into the smallest viable first step; time awareness, building external cues and routines that replace an internal clock that is not firing reliably; working-memory workarounds, consistent external systems, checklists, and low-friction capture habits; emotional regulation, using CBT techniques to recognize rejection-sensitive dysphoria and frustration spikes and shorten the recovery window; and self-compassion alongside accountability, so years of perceived failure do not make every attempt at change harder.

These skills are not taught in a classroom format. They are worked on in session, applied between sessions, and adjusted to fit your actual life.

Coverage

Is ADHD therapy covered by Medi-Cal here?

Eye Cue Mental Health accepts Medi-Cal, Anthem Medi-Cal, Blue Shield Promise Medi-Cal, Cigna, Aetna, LA Care, and Molina. Whether your specific plan covers ADHD therapy depends on your plan and medical necessity, and we verify your benefits before your first session.

We do not publish a separate self-pay rate list on this page because most of our clients are covered. If you are not on one of these plans, call us and we will be direct about whether we can help.

Good questions

Frequently asked questions

Still unsure? Call 562-860-2891 and we will talk it through, no commitment.

No. Many clients come in with ADHD symptoms but no formal diagnosis. We complete a preliminary narrative assessment as part of intake. Full neuropsychological testing and formal diagnostic batteries are referred out, and we will point you to the right provider if that is what you need. You do not have to figure that part out before calling.

Eye Cue accepts Medi-Cal and many private insurance plans. Whether your specific plan covers ADHD therapy depends on your plan and medical necessity. We verify your benefits before your first session so there are no surprises. If you are unsure which plan you have, bring your insurance card and we will look it up together.

You will not be stuck. If the fit is not right, we match you with another clinician in the practice. You do not have to start over with a new intake somewhere else. The preliminary assessment we completed stays in the record so you are not repeating your history from scratch.

No. Eye Cue is an outpatient psychotherapy practice. We have no prescribers on staff. If you are working with a prescriber, we coordinate with them. Medication management stays with your outside provider. If you are looking for a prescriber and do not have one, we can point you toward resources for finding one.

Many clients do well with telehealth, and some find the home environment better for focus sessions than a commute would allow. You can also switch between telehealth and in-person at the Cerritos office with the same therapist as your schedule changes. Consistency with the same clinician matters more than which format you use. See how we run individual therapy across both settings.

We work with clients through insurance transitions rather than terminating care when a plan changes. Call us and we will talk through what the new plan covers. If your new plan is one we accept, the transition is usually straightforward.

There is no single answer. Treatment length at Eye Cue is based on medical necessity and your goals, not a fixed session quota. Some clients focus on a skill set over a few months. Others stay longer when ADHD is layered with anxiety, depression, or past trauma. Your clinician reviews progress with you and discusses when to step down.

If you are in crisis, call or text the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline any time, or go to your nearest emergency room. Eye Cue Mental Health is an outpatient practice, not a crisis center.
