The basics

What is trauma therapy and how does it work?

Trauma therapy is outpatient psychotherapy that helps people process distressing experiences still affecting daily life. At Eye Cue Mental Health, our clinicians use trauma-informed approaches, including EMDR therapy, matched to each person's history, needs, and pace. Start with a phone intake at 562-860-2891 and we will match you with a clinician who fits.

Untreated trauma often surfaces as anxiety, difficulty sleeping, irritability, or trouble trusting people close to you. The National Institute of Mental Health notes that traumatic stress can reshape how the nervous system responds to everyday situations, which is why symptoms often persist long after the original event has passed. Trauma-informed therapy helps you recognize those patterns and work through them.

How we work

How trauma-informed care works at Eye Cue

Trauma-informed care starts with safety, then moves at your pace. Here is how the process typically looks.

1

Phone intake

You call 562-860-2891. We ask about your insurance, your situation, and what you are looking for. There is no pressure and no intake forms to fill out alone.

2

Clinician match

We pair you with a clinician whose background fits your needs. We have clinicians with experience in childhood trauma, complex trauma, and PTSD treatment.

3

Establishing safety

The first sessions focus on building trust, understanding your history at your pace, and learning practical skills for managing distress.

4

Processing work

Once you and your clinician feel ready, you move into deeper processing. This may include EMDR or other evidence-based approaches.

5

Building forward

The goal is reduced symptoms and a better ability to live the life you want. Treatment ends when you and your clinician decide it ends.

Why us

What makes Eye Cue different from a county clinic

Private-practice trauma care on the insurance you already carry, with the same clinician in person or by video.

Private practice, Medi-Cal accepted

No metal detectors. No waiting rooms shared with acute-psychiatric patients. A private practice in Cerritos that accepts Medi-Cal among several insurances.

Treatment length driven by medical necessity

No algorithm decides how many sessions you get. Sessions are weekly when weekly is what you actually need, not biweekly or monthly because that is the default.

EMDR accessible through Medi-Cal

Many EMDR clinicians charge $250 to $300 per session out of pocket. We are one of the few practices in the greater Los Angeles area that accepts Medi-Cal and many private plans for EMDR, subject to your benefits and medical necessity.

If the fit is off, we match you again

If your first match is not right, we move you to another clinician within the practice. You do not start over with a new intake somewhere else.

Open 7 days a week, 8 AM to 10 PM

Weekend and evening slots are rare among Medi-Cal mental health options in LA County. Our Cerritos office is open every day.

In-person or telehealth, your call

Switch between the Cerritos office and video without changing therapists. Same clinician either way, anywhere our insurance contracts allow in California.

What it helps with

What kinds of trauma can therapy help with?

Each person's experience is different. Your clinician will work with you at your own pace.

Single-incident trauma

Accidents, assaults, and medical emergencies can leave lasting effects long after the event itself is over. Trauma therapy helps you process what happened.

Childhood and early trauma

Childhood trauma and early adverse experiences shape how you respond to stress as an adult. Our clinicians work with these patterns directly.

Complex trauma

Ongoing or repeated difficult experiences build into complex trauma. This work moves slowly and carefully, always at your pace.

Grief, loss, and life changes

Grief, loss, and sudden life changes can register as trauma. Therapy gives you space to process them without rushing.

Relationship and family conflict

Relationship trauma and family conflict can leave you on guard with the people closest to you. We help you understand and shift those patterns.

Cultural displacement and immigration stress

Trauma tied to cultural displacement or immigration stress, as well as workplace or community violence, are part of the work our clinicians do every week.

Coverage

Does insurance cover trauma and PTSD therapy here?

PTSD, or post-traumatic stress disorder, is one of the conditions trauma therapy directly addresses, and you do not need a formal diagnosis to start. If you are searching for PTSD treatment in Cerritos, the same clinicians and the same process apply.

Eye Cue Mental Health accepts Medi-Cal and many private insurance plans for individual therapy, including sessions focused on trauma. We hold contracts with Medi-Cal, Anthem Medi-Cal, Blue Shield Promise Medi-Cal, LA Care, Molina, Cigna, and Aetna. Whether your specific plan covers outpatient psychotherapy for trauma depends on your plan and medical necessity, and we verify your benefits before your first session. If you are new to the plan, you can also ask about Medi-Cal therapy options.

Good questions

Frequently asked questions

Still unsure? Call 562-860-2891 and we will talk it through, no commitment.

No. Your clinician will not push you to describe anything before you are ready. The first sessions focus on building a safe, trusting relationship and on practical coping skills. Processing the event itself happens at your pace.

We hear this concern often. If you start sessions and the fit is not working, we can match you with a different clinician in the practice. You do not have to start over with a new practice. Just let us know.

Call us at 562-860-2891 before your first appointment and we will verify your specific benefits. We know Medi-Cal patients have been burned by practices that list coverage but do not have space. We will be straight with you before you commit any time.

Yes. Our clinicians offer telehealth sessions statewide where our insurance contracts allow. If you prefer in-person sessions at our Cerritos office, that is available too. And you can switch between the two with the same therapist as your schedule changes.

Treatment length is based on your medical necessity, not a session quota. We work with you on insurance questions rather than simply terminating care when a cap is hit. Call us if you have a specific concern about your plan.

There is no single answer. Some people work through a specific event in a few months. Complex or childhood trauma typically takes longer. Your clinician will give you an honest picture based on your situation, not a number pulled from a billing algorithm.
